Our entire town gathers on the riverbank to watch fireworks and drink hot chocolate and have a bonfire. Even at minus forty without the pussy windchill there will be a few thousand people out there, from a town of around four thousand.
In an age of fear, hatred, and cynicism it’s a cool small town thing that helps bind us together.
One year there was a brilliant display of northern lights with the fireworks. Truly spectacular, and something most people will never experience.
