Hey guys,

I got my old NMW freewheeling hubs out and want to repack and clean the bearings. Does anybody know how they come apart? I see a screw with a roll pin in the back. Do you drive the roll pan forward and then back the screw out, then once you get it a part drive or pull the roll pan completely out?

Only get one shot at this and don’t want to ruin my tow hubs.

Thanks very much in advance!

What is the hex drive for on the back of the hub?

Hi 3B
That’s my question, my guess is that the hex conical bolt is very similar to the one that holds the 4 speed shifter adapter onto the side of an A833 four-speed ( those three cone shaped hex bolts )
Looks like there is a roll pin that’s pushed into the notch that’s drilled in the edge of that heX bolt .

So the question is, how to get the roll pin out so that I might unscrew the hex bolt and take the hub halves apart?

I thought maybe attempt to drive it deeper but then it might really get jammed in there and have to drill it out making a real mess .

I figured maybe one of us old timers might have back in the day taken one apart and remembers how to do it.

Guess there is no nut on the hub side?

Apparently “revision one” had a big nut similar to a front spindle but subsequent models did away with that and has the hex bolt on the back holding the halves together

Was able to find an old advertisement from the 60s from NMW Welding. And yeah, 3B... there was a nut & cotter pin on the hub outside. That was an old design and the new ones have the stud side looks pretty similar to a rear axle flange
