I am going to guess that is indeed an error in translating MPG, the correct data is more likely 8 miles per liter, which works out to 30.4 miles per gallon.

I kind of like the body style, simple, smooth, without a lot of distracting weirdo taillights, etc.

Of course they do, with engines designed by rocket engineers. Remember about 35 years ago when the cheapest Chevettes, Tercels, Rabbits and Hyundai Ponys struggled with about 80 hp? Looks like North Korea is slowly catching up to that.
