Want to remove the air conditioning from my 1974 Charger, 71 440 motor. Have searched threads but not found anything of great use. Any wisdom or suggestions would be appreciated. First time mechanic/restorer so excuse my ignorance but won't I need to reduce the number of pulleys, belts and what do you do with the "holes" where hoses once entered/exited? Thanks in advance.

The heater/ac boxes differ from just having a heater box unless you plan on taking out the heat too then all you need to worry about is filling the holes. You can cut round metal plugs or caps and either glue them in place or weld them. I've pop riveted them in place with a small bead of RTV before. Heck, RTV by itself will glue them in place too. And yes, you'll need to do a pulley swap to a non ac setup.....but when you hit old age, you'll be wishing that ac was back on there in hot weather lol

Here in (northern) Indiana it seems like there is maybe only 3 or 4 weekends where it get's really hot. Otherwise I roll the windows down and drive really fast! Is the pulley swap something I can "order" from one of the performance part suppliers, or is it something I'll need to find original parts for? Obviously I'm not trying to keep the car OEM, it's already a Frankenstein and I'm good with that.

I've never swapped pulleys just lose the belt and cut the a/c pump bracket about 1 1/2"-2" from the bottom.you still need this bracket for the alt . Then just remove the hoses cap them off / tape over the hole something . That's really about it you don't have to touch the heater stuff at all. Don't forget to rip the condenser out from in front of the rad so you get a bit more air flow

If this is a show car then you could swap pulleys and change brackets . Good luck

I changed the pulleys and brackets,My heater box was re built and the evap connections are capped off,the heater stuff stayed the same, might want to add it back at some time but not now. 69 road runner 001.jpgIMG_0493.jpg
