Hey guys, I took out the fuel pump to replace it. Thing is the pump belongs to a 318 cubic inch engine, but the vin number states that the vehicle is a 361 cubic inch engine. Should I just buy a replacement for the fuel pump that was in place or should I get the one that belongs to a 361 cubic Inch?

Post your partial vin # I have never heard of a 381 motor...

Did you make a typo?

so the vin number is wrong

Your options here, based upon what you wrote are:
1. 361 big block (pre-cursor to the 383)
2. 318 LA engine (made '68 & up)
3. 318 "poly" engine

Regardless, you'll need the fuel pump for the correct engine. The VIN of the car shows the engine that was originally in the car, not necessarily what's in there now. I strongly suggest you identify what engine you have for sure. In most cases, it's written in 1" tall numbers on the driver's side of the engine block, towards the rear, about in the middle (up/down).

Here is a picture of the motor, partial vin number and a page from a service manual I downloaded.

I am not 100% familiar with 361 B big block same as the B line engines but I thought they had the distributors in front just like the other big blocks?

I could be wrong but it looks like a 318 wide block motor....

Is it a big block or small block? Where's the distributor? Basically, any A or LA engine whatever size will use the same pump.

bro some of us has some serious search capabilities!

Every part on the car has a PN/casting number that can be searched....

On the passenger side of the block is casting numbers also. Just below the exhaust manifold and above the oil pan.....

Ain't a 361, or any other RB or B block, distributor's near the firewall.

All big blocks are up front.....all small blocks are rear...

A 361 is a big block B engine

No, I just wasn't clear. I was saying that since his dizzy is near the firewall, it can't be a 361 or any other B/RB.

Poly 318.

IIRC the LA 318 fuel pump works.

VIN "F" would have been a 361 2 barrel, and VIN "G" would have been a 383 4 barrel.

Not sure about the 1966 Dodge FSM but the 66 Plymouth manual has an error in the VIN engine code section.
