Picked up this unused Sun cheapie tach a garage sale. It is complete except for the black round nut? collar? attachment thingy? that goes through the metal mount and screws into the back of the tach with the wires leading through it. Anybody got a spare one lying around, or have any suggestions what to use instead? Thanks!

Just an idea but how about some pvc or cpvc pipe fittings. Something like a 3/8 male thread fitting, I can't remember if that is pipe thread but even if it isn't, it will make threads as you screw it in. A little shot of rattle can black or some fusion plastic paint and Voila! Should run you less thana dollar! Now if I was running one of those i'd buy some red, white and blue fusion plastic paint and do it up Big Daddy Don Garlits style using some scrapbooking stars for stencils...... On second thought I would just glue the bracket to the back with some 3m plastic repair. But I have that handy in the shop. If you are going ol'school and hose clamping to the column check with a Farm equipment dealer for big clamps.

I am sure if you check you will find that the threads are different than what you need and Sun no longer offers that part....been there done that. If you can find out what the correct thread is you may be able to match it with another fitting modified for what you need.

Drill two or three holes in the metal bracket and use two or three short sheet metal screws to attach it to the housing. Maybe take the housing apart to see how much space there is inside the housing so the screws don't get into anything inside.

I had one that was missing....I used a brass fitting...it was a little different thread. .I took the shell apart and heated the brass and just cut new threads....kinda of half *** but it was that way for awhile and never any trouble

Found dead tach at the nats with the piece on it. Score!
