Anyone have a part # for a shorty oil filter, having clearance problems on my 62 plymouth, 413 with a champion radiator. The trans line hits the oil filter and won't bolt up. I know I could cut the trans line and run rubber if I have too. Thought a shorty oil filter might clear. Get this, I couldn't even get an oil filter off the shelf for a 413 or any big block mopar at 3 different box auto parts stores !!

I believe the shorter version of the old PH8A oil filter was the PH43. Which filter are you using now that is
"too long"?

Here is a few filters you could use.
Most filters are around 5 and up inches tall
These will give you at least an 1 inch clearance
Wix 51521 3.79 inches tall
FRAM PH43 4.00 inches tall

Yup, both are shorter versions of the PH8A....and you really don't want to use Fram,
especially if Wix is available.
By the way, the Wix 51068 is 4.33" long if you can make that fit. The more filter, the better -
and Wix is light years better than Fram.

I know a lot of you guys don't like Fram, but I bought a new 80 Honda Civic and used Fram religiously for 205000 miles and changed oil every 3000 miles. That's almost 70 filters and never had a problem. Kept car for 15 years. Daily driver from Long Island to Bklyn., about 50 miles 1 way.

That had a lot more to do with the change interval and the fact such a critter isn't hard on oil than anything else.
You start getting into engines that put demands on such and you'll want the Wix....if you want the beast to live.

Cheeseburgerhead69, if the solutions above don't help,I've got a list of several others (just don't have access right now) from an old moparts thread. I'll put up some more later.

That trip by the way was mostly stop and go on the Long Island distressway. Had original clutch, the only bad thing on that car were the brakes. Honda used a3/8 thick solid front rotor that warped whenever you had to panic stop. The only good thing they were cheap and easy to replace. When I got to work I had the best job in the world as a Firefighter during the war years in FDNY from 68 to 92.

Fram PH16 or wix 51085 is shorter than ph8
Andy F uses genuine mopar, 409 (smaller o.d.)
PH3614 or wix 51348, also smaller o.d.
PH3512, purolator L10101, wix51335, are VERY short, about half the length of a ph8, oem for GLHS.
Then there is the diesel, ph977a, or wix51773. Half again longer than a ph8, quart and a half capacity.

Oh man - those filters on the 2.2 in the little Shelby cars was a TINY filter and many of us who owned one
of them back then found out in a hurry that larger filters would work on them - such as the PH43 sized ones.
Same mounting/gasket size, same inlet/outlet sizes - and a lot more filter!

VERY true! But the o.p. is looking for a shorter filter.

I do believe wix has been bought out , we use their filters a lot at work , I run them or mopar on my stuff

I've run the tiny diameter filter in my blown 340 for years. Needed it for header clearance. 11.0 @123 street car. Its small, doesnt mean it doesnt flow.
