Opinions on camshaft

Any engine builders have an opinion on my camshaft. Thinking about changing it and just found the specs on it.
440, 9.75 cr, six pack, 906 heads. Running stock manifolds and exhaust but thinking about changing to TTI fuel exhaust. (Maybe even having heads ported).
 
:popcorn: been in the same boat. I thought I need to rip down my 440 to see what I have ,bought the car and no clue if bored ect ect. Looking for low and mid torque on my pack.
 
Seems to me to be about 1 step above the standard 6 pack cam.
As you have 214/181 valves a little port work seems in order. All sort of depends on your intended use.
 
All depends what you want. I like the looks of that cam, about 10 degrees at .050 more than a stock magnum. Probably as big as you’d want to go with manifolds. Would want an 11” converter if auto.
 
As said, likely the Summit cam....... or some iteration of it from a different supplier.
The actual Summit cam has a 114lsa....... so if that’s what you have, it’s installed advanced a bit from the norm.
I think some vendors offer it on a 112(Elgin maybe?)
(Edit- it’s not Elgin, but Clevite did offer it on a 112.)

The Summit cam works pretty well with ex manifolds, so if you stick with those...... I’d just leave the cam in there.

If the heads have NO porting or blending, then that would be worth looking at as an upgrade for your combo.

If you do go with headers and some head work....... that can really open up the combo to being suitable for a bunch of different cam choices/directions.

Thanks for all the info, it really helps. This engine was built over 30 years ago and runs really well, (465 hp/ 512 tq). I just use the car for street use and cruising so I think I’ll just leave well enough alone. I have another 440 here so if I decide I need more power I’ll build a stroker motor out of it.

Probably a General Kinetics or Wolverine back then.

I put one in my friends 69 GTX in the late 80’s.
My memory is a little fuzzy on it now...... but how remember it is...... I ordered a “Summit” cam...... and it came in a GK box.

I believe that series of lobes start at 184@.050 and go up to 254 or 264@.050, in 10* increments.

They used that series of lobes for everything.

I'm sure with some searchin, you'll find that the comments on Summits site, and others will tell you more about that cam. For one thing, it's ground on a Chevy lobe. Good Luck
 
I see that as a slow & lazy low lift cam designed for long life. IF your stepping up to a set of after market heads, the cam makes no sense because it doesn’t take advantage of the better port flow offered by the heads.

IMO, what day would do, FWIW. Look into a (solid lifter) Lunati cam with more lift. The duration dictates rpm so choose carefully. If you have a numerically low gear, you will not want to go much larger in duration. Also! Keep in mind the intake is a 2500 - 6500 rpm piece.

The nice thing about a better head is that it can extended the rpm band of a cam. More flow the better. I have two sets of small block TTI headers and one of there full exhaust systems. They are really really nice, fit well and perform great.
 
the white box cam is at .004/ SAE adv duratiom
what PRH said.. same one size fits all famly as 204-214 and 214-224
has nothing to do with 6 pack cam- no comparison
for heads that do not flow more with higher lifts
leaves a lot of torque on the table
