Overheating

I had the lower hose collapse issue with my 70 Challenger RT 383 about 45 years ago. It happened on a trip to Florida. Had to change it in a restaurant parking lot! Lots of fun!

Thanks again for all the suggestions Will start once the rain stops, hopefully Thursday'. Will post it once I find out the cause. Hey WileE did you want the keys in the glove box too?

The collapsing hose is usually a symptom of the rad not allowing enough flow

Im going with the fact that you can hear the coolant percolating out like an old coffee pot. Next time probably this weekend. If its not raining. I will take pictures of the gauge before going up driveway and after. Will also record the percolating sound. Will also check to see if it does it pulling straight in.
What is the coolant temperature.

Yeah, speaking of radiator caps. After doing work on my Dakota due to little cabin heat, I topped it off with a new cap, pun here? You know how gut feelings go? Something just didn’t seem right with the cap; but thought, oh hell it is a new cap. I drove around for a couple days locally before having to make a 200-mile trip to my kid’s house. Drove about 40-miles, around 25 on the interstate. Temp gauge showed a bit warmer than usual so watched it closer. After a few more miles, the gauge climbed fast. Pulled off and shut it down. Heard gurgles then came the steam then coolant spewing out. If I had kept the old one, might have avoided the two-hour wait for AAA tow. Anyway, when crap like this has happened, more than once, I didn’t let my gut change my mind.

Sure, it would make it easy for me. :brownnose: < Hey, anybody ever tell you what a great guy you are ???

I like to deny the possibility of exhaust gases in the cooling system as long as possible, but, perhaps it has exhaust gases in the cooling system. Maybe a rear cylinder leaking, the gases build up because rear is higher and pushes the coolant out. The blue to green chemical tester are cheap enough. I find they work best after idling to temp, turn off the engine, run the test.

On the up side, now you can get aluminum heads (if only to reduce the times you have to lift a cast iron head).

Ok I think I found something but not sure. It finally stopped raining, well stopped long enough to go out and start looking at the problem. If any. I checked the bottom hose it had a spring in it. So hose was not collapsing. After I ran the car for awhile with no issues. I went inside. My wife went outside to get the mail and noticed antifreeze in the pan that i keep under the car to catch my valve cover leak. (another problem). When I looked there was a steady drip of fluid from the pump. Will a pump that is leaking from the seals cause overheating or is it just a leak and the pump is moving fluid and doing it job? I replaced the pump. Flushed the system and planned on taking it out to a show. It started raining. So only managed a few miles before heading home. No issues but not sure if I drove far enough plus the cooling effect of rain had anything to do with it. Will attempt to check further when rain stops. They say sometime next week.

Weep hole, or around the bolt connection? It could be a loose bolt, or need new gasket. I had a bolt pop when doing a pressure test. Glad it didn't make the fan. If former I'd say need a new pump.

Maybe car is allergenic to your driveway, and that' s why it spills its guts. Talk about a weird problem, this is it.

It was coming from the weep hole. Replaced the pump. It's still raining since Sunday so haven't been able to check. They say the rain should stop Saturday. I'm hoping to go to my usual show and see what happens. Hopefully it won't overheat and spill it's fluid all over the driveway again.
