Plymouth fan in New Orleans - with 72 Satellite in need of resto

Hello,

I've only just joined the forum but I've checked out the site from time to time for a while. I have a 72 Satellite Sebring that I bought about 10 years ago on eBay but haven't had the time/money/space to work on it all that much. Now I'm digging in again looking to get it fully functional with all the modern bells and whistles like seats and a speedometer. The car has a 383 in it, I think it was a 69, it was in there when I bought it. Last time I had to park it mainly due to the tail lights and all the side markers going out on me. The battery drains if left connected. I don't have a ton of time to work on it still, with a 3 year old and another baby due soon but at least I have a garage now and a tiny bit of money to spend on it.

For now I am going to start with the lights/electrical and the interior. Then I would like to put in a new ignition system. I could use some tips on what to go with for this. I think my firewall fuse block is still good but the wiring on the harnesses are mostly all screwed up.

I put a new holley carb (600 or 650 not sure) a long time ago but I may rebuild the original holley 750 and put it back on if I can get the electrical system up to snuff. I hope I don't find too much rust when I take the interior apart, which could put me outside of my skill level. Other new stuff included most brake parts (still very stiff with very little travel), fuel pump, alternator, leaf springs, shocks, alum radiator, and misc others.

But for now, can someone tell me where the rear light harness connects up? I wanted to work on that before taking the seat and carpet out and can't find it. Also ideas on what to do about the ignition system would be nice. It feels like it has weak spark to me. I replaced the plugs and wires and ballast resistor not too long before the last time I parked it.

This is a great site and it is inspiring to see all the amazing things the guys on here are doing!

Mmmm big block...

You back side marker and tail lights should be connected to a plug on the drivers side (somewheres at the kick panel) that will run along the drivers side all the way back to the trunk.Under the carpet and seal plate by the door there is a metal tab about three inches wide that is as long as the door that's where they put the wires to protect them, the harness should be in there. I hope this helps and nice car.

Great I will check it out once I get back from the in-laws tonight. I appreciate the help I think I can find it with those tips.

Also, some very exciting news. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on $1k worth of interior stuff from year one! Seat covers, headliner, package tray, dash cap, arm rests, all the insulation, screws, clips, etc. They have a 30% off sale for Mother's Day if anybody is waiting to get something there. Also picked up a rear light harness. I figured I better replace it while I have the interior out. I will post some pics on a resto thread once I make some progress.

Looks like a nice 72 Satty/RR clone project, welcome to FBBO from NorCal
