It's definitely a 3.23, I checked, and double checked it!... How can I determine/know if I have a slippery converter?
 
3000 rpm just sounded way high to me.
I've got 2 cars with 3.23 gears so I found a calculator.
I just don't see how you get that high without the converter slipping or the transmission itself.
But the converter seems more likely.

Error in your calcs Don, the tire is 24.5" (actually 24.7" according to internet).
You've put 25.4" in the calculator.

Ok ran it again but it still doesn't match what he describes:

Update... Put the 28 inch tires on the rear, and all good in regards to rpm now! I'm sitting around 2500 or so at 62mph, from initial I dications (but need to take on a proper run)...
