Has anyone been involved with installing a rear Bee stripe kit over a base coat clear coat paint job and than clear coat over the strip/panel? I used to work for a guy who placed decals on HD motorcycle gas tanks and ship them off to europe. So I never saw them years later. I was going to paint the stripe on and than clear it but the Bee round decal is still there.
Any way does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks as always,
Bill

I did this to my buddys Harley tank 6 years ago and it still looks good.

I personally would not apply clear over the Stripe. You may have no problems but in theory it could delaminate later and ruin the back half of the car. Also check with your stripe manufacturer. Some say you can clear over them and some say not to. Also, if for whatever reason you decide to take off the stripe, change to a different color, etc, you can do it without damage to the existing paint.

These new clears shouldn't crack. A good clear stays rather pliable to a point. The hardest thing would be adhesion. Applying over a decal might be borderline for adhesion. They make a promoter for such applications.

Now if you're painting the stripe you can clear over it, no problem. Then flat sand your clear for a different look.

Mho, I like seeing the decal over the final coat. It is as factory would have done it...

I would use us paint super clear in awlcraft.... give it a good cleaning in alcohol and wet sand with 800 in one direction wash with alcohol and spray... 2 coats in 4steps and it will last for 20+ years... a boat yard or airplane shops..

The only reason I can see to not clear over the stripe would be to keep the original factory look of the decal.
