Portable kerosene heater ideas please

I am shopping for a kerosene preferably for a portable shop heater.
Has anyone tried this one?

I used a Dearborn space heater and propane. That kept it toasty when snow was out in Texas.

I have a wood burning stove in my shop and it does well but while it was made to heat an area equivalent to the square footage of my shop, those numbers are based on a 8' ceiling...my shop is 14' so almost double the volume to heat. So on really really cold days I have to supplement with a propane heater and that causes a lot of humidity in the shop.

The problem with Kerosene heaters and fuel oil torpedo heaters is that you are breathing the exhaust fumes!
You need a vented wall heater that throws the flue gas outside. Another thing you have to remember is that
when you burn this junk indoors, a by product is moisture and CO. The moisture will condense on every
surface inside the space, and the CO will kill you!

I know of a few guys that used torpedo heaters with kerosene.... and they are both dead from this kind of situation.
You need adequate ventilation using these type of heaters. Of course, it does not work very well, when it is 0 degrees
outside either.......

you really don't want to be breathing that ****...... I'd look for a used oil burner furnace and feed it with a 55 gallon drum or similar

houses get heating upgrades all the time, and good, working furnaces become available

I hate fuel oil. Stinky damn stuff. One step above diesel.

Propane is a pretty clean burn. They can run off a gas grill tank.

me too, but it works......... not in one of those hot dogs; to clarify, I was referring a regular house furnace with a blower

gas furnace even better, pretty sure they can be converted to propane

I burn off road diesel in my furnace. I pick up 40-50 gallons at a time.... cheaper than heating oil delivery...... and they always want a minimum purchase

I have a small Kerosene heater that I used in NC, VA in the winters inside my house that I got from my mother who used it inside her house, 5 yrs for me n over 15 yrs for her. We'd put a pot of water on top to help w the air drying out. Never vented anything. I'm still kickin.

I have a nice new unused one you can have. I used to use them, but the oily black residue and the fumes convinced me to go with a couple of those propane heaters that clip onto a 20LB cylinder. They heat better, and you don't have the fumes and mess.

I have a similar Mr. Heater that is propane. It warms a 6000 square foot building with 14 foot eaves and higher in the center.

You guys out east do that. Here in the midwest we either burn Natural gas in town or LP and very little heating oil in the rural areas. Wood heat has become popular as a supplemental heat out on the farms. A wood burner out in the yard with a water heat exchanger into the house.

I built my shop in 1997, oil was cheap; so I bought a nice house unit and a tank. We have natural gas in the house (from the street); and I could have gone with gas heat, but it wasn't worth burying 200 feet of pipe. it's really only an issue 4 months out of the year, I just don't keep the shop as toasty as I used to.

The no ventilation up high is what I do no have. ....yet.

We use heat 8-9 months so we need something efficient. Natural gas is the best unless you want to cut and split wood for all winter. You folks burned coal for a long time. I don't think I could find coal here nowdays.

I think the kerosene or propane heaters are scary. OK if you are ventilating the area, but if not, scary. My first garage/shop I tried a small wood stove. Better than nothing in Minnesota. Switched to a gas ceiling hung unit heater. No worries about air quality.

Have you looked into ceramic electric heaters?
A portable unit a fraction the size of a kerosene/fuel oil(exhaust fumes-bad) or a propane or natural gas(exhaust humidity) will do a more efficient job heating.
Several units placed around your shop will keep a nice even heat.
Much cheaper than the old technology you’re looking at.
