possible leak spot on 727?

I've noticed some fluid around my trans mount and wondering if it could be coming from the opening where you remove the snap-ring on the tail brg as shown in pic. I didn't notice what was going on there when I put the trans in. Can it leak there? Does that hole get some kinda cover/plug? With sealer around it?

There should be a metal cover there, and a gasket, held on by 2 countersunk screws. It should leak a lot without it.

It can leak there but rarely does.... Look a few inches forward of there... If there's no oil forward of there then I'm wrong.. But the common leak is the band anchor pin... The picture shows the rear of the trans with the extension housing removed....
