Hi All,

I’m in need of some advice on removal of the box from my 74 Roadrunner.

I can’t get at the bolt on the outer left side of the steering box.

The gear appears too close the the k frame and I can’t get anything onto it from the front. While I loosen the back, I can bearly touch it with my finger tips.

I can get to in from the rear side but it’s just spinning on the other side where I can’t reach it. Other two bolts were a doddle.

So please bring on the words of Windsom while I grab a coffee.

Geez... it's tight up in there. I've never done a steering box on a '74. Off the top of my head:
1. Use A LOT of PB Blaster or other good rust penetrant & be patient while it soaks in
2. On the front side (where you can't reach) is there a way to "jamb" the bolt/nut with a prybar or larger screwdriver to keep it from spinning & use an impact socket on the back side you can reach? That "sudden jolt" of an impact might break it free.
3. Use a cutting torch on the back end you can get to & replace that bolt when re-installing the steering box.

Pictures would help us help you.

Ill try get a pic shortly. Just had to walk away from it for a few. I was expecting the pitman arm to be the one giving me grief and it came off easy enough.

I was trying to get at it with a 6” pry bar from underside to jam the bolt but it’s too awkward. Might need to wait till I have a helper.

All I needed was the wife’s tea and a few minutes away from it.

What an awkward spot, heavy f@#ker too
