Hi.....not a joke but a humorous story of some vindication:
In 1979 i bought 8MA-1148, a 1970 U.S. export model deTomaso Mangusta or "Goose" w/ 1100 miles on clock to which i had added another zero after two years. I stopped at an acquaintances house Who had just taken delivery of a brand new 928 porsche'. i could have bought some new production hottie but last thing i'm going to do is drop a bundle on something that i'm always going to be encountering on the streets...i don't want other people driving what i'm driving...."Goose" was rare from the beginning w/ only 401 hand built...mid-engine and rod end located suspension...works for my ego. And i paid less than half what the 928 cost and 4K less than what the pos 924 was stickering at. To me, that is a no-brainer. Anyway, Bill wrinkles His nose at me and drawls out "why'd You buy thhaaat when You could have had one of these?" pointing to the pg porsche,...to which i snapped back, "well **** Bill, aaannnyyybody can have a 928!" This year @ Bonham's Auction, a 1971 Mangusta pulled down 332K.......what porsche'? Car is in Mangusta International Registry with appro 250 registered. I don't think the "Throne of Pose" can ever be taken away from the mysterious Mangusta...not even a 206/246 Dino or a Lamborghini Muira can do it. An obsession, but then again, i obsess over the memories of my three B-Bodies as well...69 Charger hdtp 318....69 Coro 500 sport hdtp 318, and a 68 Coro 440 Post Coupe' 318 w/ bench seat. I embarrassed a lot of quasi exotica with those 'used cars'....a coupla cops too stevens bridgewater

Neat story Bladecutter!

Got any pics of the "Gusta"?
I am familliar with them, kind of like a deTomaso Pantera, more Itallian Ethnicity and...the Pantera is considered its 'smaller sibling".

Tody, it is percieved there are about 260 left in the world and prices no lower than $150K

Again pics of the car would be neat..

Cool story Bladecutter. Like so many of us I'm betting that you wish you still had the old car. :) If I recall, the Mangusta had the 289 or 302, while the Pantera that replaced it used the 351 Cleveland. But I think the Mangusta back window looks better.

So, any b-bodies in the stable at the moment?

Bettie Frances Mangusta

This thing messes me up, i'm logged in and then when i try to post, i'm disallowed. Thanks for the replies. Photon 44, did i read in another thread that You are Inland Empire? As i am. i'm pretty illiterate on PC, but i'l try to post some pics when schedule lightens. Google mangusta registry or mangusta international to see mine and about 250 other cars, a pretty impressive stable...some pure race cars too....stuff is "the kind" US cars were stock windsor 302's and euro car were shelbyized 289', both w/ weber induction & 4 bbl cars.
I'm looking for a 68 4 door Coro...any trim...can be roller, but has to be original under 100K miles within 200 miles of LA Basin and has to be clean unmolested metal, dents and waves no problem, but i want to start an easel that somebody else hasn't mudded up. Mild rust not an issue either. Car has to be local as i won't purchase what i haven't met and also don't trust shipping outfits.

Thanks for Your replies, check out the "Goose" site, You won't be disappointed.......my serial # is 8MA-1148....car is registered as mine, but the car is lost in the mix somewhere, has not been registered by any new owners, but we're lookin. Any fo do info, please let me know....Happy Holidaze...jimi

previous reply w/ confusing line.......the US cars were stock windsor 302, the euro cars were Shelby 289....the 289 came with either Weber IDA 48 downdraft induction or single 4 bbl.

Hi Bladecutter - no, I'm not in California, but farther north and past the border into Canada. But we still have our share of cool cars up here. :)

Sorry to hear about the computer problems, obviously you managed to get that post done, what was the problem? Does it give any error message, or simply refuse to upload?

Definitely looking forward to the pictures!

The car is an obsession Bro'...always was since the first time i saw a 70 in 70 @ BMC on van ness in SF.....and ended up lucky enough to have one a few years later....pretty amazing we survived each other cuz i definitely crossed her up a few times. backwards off the road on to inclined shoulder one night, broke at over 100mph....i was just along for the ride from that point.

i thought i read in welcome wagon that You were in IE....i'm IE.....looking for 68 four door coronet within 200 miles of LA basin. Unmolested original under 100K miles, any trim , can be roller.......project i hope to get going by summer....marry to MK VIII...everything underneath along w/ running gear. Peace, Happy Holidaze....jimi

mangusta registry...i'm 1148........probably the only problem w/ the PC is me. I Love Canada....in my Youth i spent a summer going through Banff and other areas....killer country....don't let the aluminaughty take it away from You.....everybody here just gives up the store...disgusting what.s become of the Constitution......" Those Who Would Give Up Their Freedoms & Liberties for false protection, Deserve Neither" * Benjamin* and still hardly anybody listens. Have a safe season 'nuk........jimi

For Photon & Ski and anyone else who cares to look

8MA-1148

The Goose was an unsorted prototype w/ handling ills, still the feedback of the drive was spectacular & seductive and today all problems have been isentified and can be rectified fairly easy...but of this there is no doubt, as the shape of the Goose has earned it's place in the world of sculpture seriously, the car is now regarded as ART, visually, NOTHING else can dethrone this spooky girl in that venue....there is nothing close...Guigiaro who penned the car when He was fairly new at Ghia, who went on to own Ghia and is the same pen of Delorean(thumbs down) and is currently the head of Ital Design openly admits He has yet to best the Mongoose AND its got heim located suspension!

Some pics of a Mangusta .....
I know the owner of this car.
It's in Springfield, Ohio.
He owns a Detomaso Pantera also.....

Nice...one of the 50 flip ups, like mine was, maybe is again if it has survived. This car looks very similiar to 8MA--1134. Rarity of a car is one thing, but limited production stands in it's own league, it's intoxicating to me and why i had one when i had the capital at time to buy into a wide variety of exotics....didn't even give a thought to dealership crap.....911 roofline far too recognizable for me. I love the B's because they handle like a slot car on the line and get em goin sideways, they are very forgiving....they break nice.....i'd never get near a big block......i'm starting my B project this spring....gotta find the right car. I want an unmolested 68 four door Coro, but the right circumstance, i'd go for a post car.....i'm really thinking about the Charger 500, Daytona and Bird roof line, or even going all the way with a full fastback, chopping the top is too much work, but moving the rear cowl and stitching in some extra metal, shortening the deck lid is less to deal with. Want a car in so-cal within a couple hundred miles of Riverside. I see You're in Muroc. i'm just west of Hemet. The screen is narrowed on me so i can't see full width on the pics.....You know thew serial #....is it registered on Mangusta Registry?

The Goose is an interesting car and from what I know not a real racer but rather built for the look. I know two people that have one.

I like the interior shot notice the drivers seat is well worn.

Yeah Roger...I'd be "hard-pressed" NOT to drive the darn thing!
I personally love them AND the De Tomasso Panterras'

Anybody check the "Goose" registry and look mine up yet? 8MA-1148 There are some pure race Mangustas, and with the mods available now, the spooks have been pretty well sorted out of the ***, there is a couple of contemporary vintage race cars that are downright snarly, nasty 289's, they rev much kwiker than the 351. check you tube for short clip of goose and pantera.

Saturday the 7th, the Art Show in Borrego Springs, Cali., @ the Borrego Art Institute kicks off. I'm in show...stevens bridgewater... hand carved aluminum sculpture from aircraft propeller blades. show runs 7th thru 28th, open tuesday thru sunday, w/ exception of christmas day.
