Probably not the last dumb question I'm going to ask...

Just to preface-
When I bought this 383 15 years ago, it was disassembled. I got all the parts wrapped in plastic, and small stuff in a box. Now that I'm just about done assembling it, I find this in one of the boxes. I believe it's a spacer? that goes on the back of the crank?
Question is...do I need to use it?
(Never owned a 383 before. Bet you couldn't tell...)

I'm pretty sure youll find the bolt pattern matches up to the pullys and balancer. So maybe someone needed it to line up bottom pully with water pump pully. Certainly not always the case tho. Is it 3/8" thick by any chance?? If so, the previous owner was running a front plate or elephant ears.

^^ agreed, more likely a crankshaft pulley spacer.

Now that I hold it up against the crank flange, it doesn't line up. Holes don't line up with the pulleys either.
Speaking of pulleys- how do I get rid of this giant abortion? I need exactly ONE pulley.

Did any holes line up or is the diameter of spacer to large? If it one hole doesn't line up turn it hole by hole, pulley and spacer go one way.

Looks large for a spacer if that a piece of paper in first picture.

It's too large for anything I can see that's related to this motor. I think the mechanics at the shop where I bought it found it on the floor and said "this ought to screw with **** for brains", and threw it in the box with the good stuff!
