I joined a couple months back when i bought my 72 charger, now ive progressed a little and thought id give an update. Basically, ive spent a ton of money and achieved nothing haha. Ive pulled out the old 360, and found a 440 out of a 67 300, pulled that motor and scrapped the 300 (made my money back and more : D ) i began my rebuild of the 440 which started as a "gasket change" but now stacked in the garage i have brand new 440 source stealth heads, a new lunati vudoo cam, lifters, and timing chain set, comp cams magnum pushrods, a new moroso oil pan and pickup, mellin oil pump, 440 source water pump and housing, motor mounts, windage tray, transmission pan, and of course GASKETS!! I also had my tranmission rebuilt and a bolt in sprag installed. So as I am about to paint my block and assemble my motor i have a couple of questions.

Where can i get ceramic headers for a 440 that will fit a 1972 charger with power steering for less than my life savings (im 17 so its not alot folks).

and I saved the 8-3/4 rear end from the chrysler because my charger has an 8-1/4 the 8-3/4 has a 3.23 posi, so i was wondering if it would be a good idea to swap it into my charger?

And of course. heres some pics

This is cool on so many levels! You're 17 is the biggest of them all! Today, most 17-19 yr olds (my daughter and her b/f come to my mind) have no clue about old cars let alone tear into an engine!

With the power your going to make I'd say the 8 3/4 sure grip is a must.I would open it up to check it before install. You might want to think about a torque converter, both easier to do now while apart.Headers don't know.Sounds like you'll have a great car.

Just buy a set of hooker or headman headers and send them to a powder coating shop. Most of them can do it. Headers alone will be around $250 and the coating will cost you about $100- $150. There is a new paint out strictly for out now a's well if you want to go the cheaper route. It holds up pretty well I might add! :) good luck and good to hear that another Mopar has not gone to the crusher!!

Wow Awesome! My little cousin is another 17 year old who goes ape **** 4 old mopars! I would for sure use the 8.75 rear the 8.25 will probably make an unsightly hood ornament for a tailing motorist if u stomp the fun pedal! U could always look 4 a used set of headers and just repaint them yourself as well.Good luck on your build!

You can get your Headmen's at Summit at a reasonable price, but I would suggest installing the driver side as you "may" have to ding a tube to clear the power steering box. Better to do it before you get them coated, otherwise, well I think you know where I'm going with that. You will be pissed. Sounds like you have a great plan already underway. Wish I could get my boys interested in American muscle. A word of caution though. Don't know what you have driven up to now, but these things are 35+ years behind in technology. They don't stop, steer and handle like todays cars. Good luck with your build and keep us posted with your updates.

thanks for all the replies, Im gonna go with the 8-3/4, and probably replace gears. I have been looking for a set of headers that will clear the power steering on the drivers side, but most of the ones that say they will have a long list of complaints from people having to make "modifications" with a hammer. and i drove a 55 t-bird for a year in high school, so im already accustomed to the driving ha
