Looks like a sheared off bolt and nut. The transmission was shifting fine. Any idea where those go?
I was expecting some metal shavings....not this!

Look at the bands.

..and while you're fixing that, replace the O ring on the pivot shaft so you're not leaking out the back of the case!

Looks like the end of the adjuster is still in place....that's why it is still shifting okay....?

I have seen lots of weird $hit over the years working on friends' TorqueFlights. They include broken band anchors, broken band apply struts, broken band adjustment studs. One friend did not have kick down linkage for his car that he raced a lot, so he tied the kick down lever all the way back. This blew up the rear servo and actually pushed the guts past the snap ring. The result was no reverse. Other disasters include destroyed sprag clutches, cracked valve bodies, and the usual burned up clutches and bands. The worst was a friend's transmission that started acting up at a show in Auburn Hills, MI., about 125 miles from home. It started out not wanting to shift properly. By the time he somehow got his car home, he only had Drive, and it was slipping badly. It turned out that the torque converter had failed in such a way that it eating itself up, and putting metal particles in the transmission fluid. This abrasive slurry was pumped through the transmission and destroyed every soft wear surface in the transmission. This 727 was total junk and had to be replaced, not rebuilt. It was a miracle that the car made it home.

Does the stud hold anything behind it? If I can remove the stud, is anything gonna fall inside the transmission? I might be able to use a reverse drill bit and back the broken stud out, make a new one from a grade 8 bolt and re-use the nut.
Maybe I'll just leave it. The car drove and shifted fine.

You should be able to undo the valve body and get up in there with a thin screw driver to pop the band strut out. Then you can turn the remainder of the band adjuster out.
