Hi.working on 64 Fury for another member. The car has the original push button mechanism and a 65 trans and valve body
converted to reverse manual shift.
He's been having problems getting it to select third. It then lost reverse and that's how I got it.
Reverse is fixed but the buttons don't seem to move the manual valve properly.
I've read there's differences between the 64 push button and 65 column or floor shift.
Any info will be appreciated,thanks.

I have no info for you, sorry, but am curious as to the fix. I have a 63 with push buttons and have been thinking of using a 65 trans also. I'm sure some member has the answer. Good luck

So far,it seems to me the mismatch is in the rooster comb and push button assy. I would think that if you have a good 63 vb you could put it in the 65 trans. We'll see what info we get.

I believe you would need the 63 rooster comb as you said.. @dvw will be able to confirm.. he knows all..

@dvw has experience with these pushbuttons and what fits what.

I have used the '65 VB with pushbuttons. The trick is you have to use the '65 shift cable adjustment procedure, it calls for the adjustment to be done in 1 instead of R.

I have a 65 fsm,I'll reread it tonight,been a few years. Thanks.

Timothy,
The valve bodies are different in the rooster comb area. Simply swap in the earlier valve body and adjust the cable while the pan is off.

Manual valve and neutral start switch are differemt, too. 1965 valve body is like a 1964 console shift valve body. Push button is different.1963 valve body will work. Because the console shifter, and 1965 column shifter have to move through 5 positions, as opposed to the buttons only moving through 4 positions, the valve body had to be modified to accomplish this.

In my '63, we kept the original PB shifter, and went to a '65 Cable shifted slip yoke. My friend Mike G, set it up, and so far it has been working as planned. I have to say, I haven't really got into it Hard, as the miles in it are still break in. I had the transmission built to handle the engine specs, so maybe this year it will see some testing...
