Need help, went to order new push rods ,and was asked if I wanted them with oil passage or not. I thought it was the norm, but was told better with out. Specs are 528 Indy Hemi, have Comp. 829-16 Roller rockers to install, I can not find on Comps site any definitive answer if they are self oiling. Does anyone know the answer. Thanks

If the rockers are not oiled either by a passage thru the head, or an external hose feeding oil to an oil galley for the rockers, then yes, you need a pushrod with an oil hole, otherwise, no hole is necessary. All pushrods that I am aware of have a hole thru the tube, but the pressed in ends are either open or closed.

a big mopar with a hole in the push rod? They dont oil that way? Now I am curious... is the hemi different?

That's not an oil through lifter so it really doesn't matter if you have oil through pushrods or not. Is the Indy 528 just meaning Indy built it, it has Indy heads (which ones) and/or an Indy block? There's a whole lot more information needed here.

Get yourself a set of 848-16 roller lifters and yes oil thru push rod if your talking solid roller. If block is stock original he I block then number four cm journal needs to be fully grooved. The 848 lifts has pisser hole and this lifter does not need to be borne bushed, if world block then no worries t Lloyd. Oil thru pushrods make big big improvement!,,,

To answer. Hemi runner, it was built by Indy. Indy heads, Mopar block. I am rebuilding the top end and noticed I have 4-6 threads on the adjuster screws coming through to the push rods. When I called Smith Bros, they threw this guestion about oil or non oil rods, I cannot find an answer , really don't want to buy another set of rockers, these are new. (Comp 829-16 ). I will phone Comp Cam today, thought there would be lots using these roller rockers. Thanks

Follow Up, Comp Cams answer is if the Rockers have Oil coming through, which they do, then NO I do not need pushrods with oil holes. Thanks

The mopar block oils conventionally through the #4 cam journal to the heads. On a hemi, the cam is grooved for full time oiling. The indy heads have screw in rescrictors under the stands that regulate oil to the rockers, so comp is correct. The 829-16 is a non oil through lifter, not a rocker arm. It won't matter what pushrod type you use with it, it won't oil.

You can run hollow push rods either way. You can push rod oil a Big Block if you wanted, mine is. More of a higher RPM race type deal. Not needed in your application. Contact Trend for a nice set of push rods. Great company to deal with, highest quality.
