Quality "Rattlecan" Undercoating

Is there such thing? Anyone have any experience with a decent one?

I know a buddy of mine that does restorations professionally uses a spraygun type product from PPG but he said it can be a pain in the *** to get a hold of. :shruggy:

I use the rustoleum truck bed spray liner from wally world, its like 7 bucks a can , but has held up extremely well after 3 years. ive even powerwashed it. prep is everything and it can be messy stuff if you aren't careful where you put it lol.

Thanks for the input 77, I might have to get a can and try it out. :icon_thumleft: and prep shouldn't be a problem since I'll be completely stripping the whole section I'm doing. Just have to try not to get that stuff all over the place I guess lol

Out of a can......3M makes some halfway decent stuff. The PPG stuff your buddy sprays out of a gun by far is a more rugged product than anything out of a can. Main reason is it's a epoxy based product with a catalyst hardener. Tough stuff! Pricey though.

My own preference, I use the SEM Bedliner out of a gun. Very tough stuff as well. Sprayed my Bird, Coronet a few other folks Mopars and several pick up beds with it. You can buy it in a kit and comes with a gun. If you have a halfway decent compressor (i'd say 30 gal. +), and a run of the mill regulator for the gun, pretty much anyone can spray it. Just don't get it on anything, doesn't like to come off. It will last longer than the can sprayed stuff as well as being more rugged like the PPG. Just my 2 cents...good luck whatever route you go.

I used spray on bedliner from Ebay, the hole kit cost 175.00 (spray gun and all). It is a two part undercoating that comes with ground up rubber so that you can get the texture you want. I think there was 3 gallons of sprayable material, enough for me to do the whole bottom and inside of the car. Messy stuff but really did a good job. I think it was Xtreme Liner or something like that. Good luck

pj-1 is the my fav. in any color . rustoleum profesional black , and red (only colors i have worked with)is ok. can be had at home depot,lowes

Thanks guys, yeah I'd assume a sprayed product would be more durable with being a two-part with hardener.

Might go with the SEM stuff you used Prop, have had nothing but great luck with all of their products so far. I don't mind mixing and spraying, just wanted to be as budget-conscious as I could since I knew the PPG stuff was pretty pricey on top of being hard to get.

I'm still finishing up some metalwork before I'll be able to finish the undercarriage, so in the meantime I'll pick up a can of rustoleum to spray a spare piece of metal and put it through a torture test. Hopefully that can be useful to some people in the future and help me make a decision lol. Hell, if super77 could pressure-wash it, probably be pretty decent stuff.

Thanks guys, yeah I'd assume a sprayed product would be more durable with being a two-part with hardener.

yah , you asked for rattlecan suggestions , so there you go LOL im budget minded myself , so that's what I use. I have used it on my jeep Cherokees as well , all the way across the bottom and I have power washed the crap out of it. I also roughed up the metal with 80 grit on a DA to give it something to grab on to. nice thing is , if it ever starts to come off , you can touch it up with a few squirts. its also paintable.

I used the 15 oz rustoleum can spray on my car just recently around $5 a can from home depot and took about 6 cans to cover 90% including fender wells. Got all the way from back to up front to the A arms. Still have some left to do but going to detail the sway bar first.

Yep, I asked rattlecans mainly to see if it was a viable option and my car isn't on rotissere so it'd make application a little easier. Sounds like rustoleum has worked out well for everyone using it though, I'm definitely gonna give it a try :icon_thumleft:

Or, go with U-Pol Chip Guard, no mixing, buy the special gun, screw it in the bottle, and squirt! Sound deadener, undercoating all in one. I used it on my Ram W250 I'm almost done with, great stuff!

That's pretty cool Donny, how far does a liter of that stuff go as far as coverage? And is it this one exactly or are there different types?
