My trunk was shot on the 68 RR. The rails had a bit of surface rust, which turned out to have caused light pitting. The metal is still strong, no holes in the rails or signs of weakness. This was the rustler of the two:

There is a bit of light pitting on the area where the trunk pan would be plug welded. I wirebrushed it and used some rustoleum rusty metal primer for a short term fix. Is this easily treatable? Or will this rust come back to haunt me later? The rails are structurally sound, no weak areas or holes at all. It would seem that it'd be extreme to change them over a bit of light pitting. All opinions are appreciated.

Looks like it is not that bad, it would be best to get it sand blasted and cleaned up good before you put any thing on it. There are some good products that can be used on it to seal it up. I used Rust Bullet on all mine. Good Luck Ronnie
