I am working on a 1970 GTX w/ a 440 automatic for a friend. He asked me to change the rt side rad support so he can use a 26 in rad. Why wouldve it came with a 22 in rad support ?

22" was standard with a 440 unless you had AC, axle package, or a four speed.
mm i did not know that im going to try to talk him into not changing it now was that the size for any year with a 440 auto ?

67 the first year for a 440 B came with a 26"- I believe.

All 1966 426 Hemi B bodies and the A/C and max cooling cars had a 26" radiator.
1967 GTX R/T, and 440 magnum Chargers all had a 26" radiator.

They changed in 1968 and went to a 22" radiator as standard.
A big mistake to save how much, $7 per car?

Just take it to a radiator shop and then put a three-quarter in it

I have to admit, I never had a cooling issue in 40 years with an original 22". It normally runs at or even slightly below normal temps.

My 70 Bee was 383 4 speed and came with a 22 inch radiator from factory. A member here has a factory 70 Bee 440 6 pack car that also has a 22 inch radiator. .
