Anyone know what these stampings may be? They are free-hand stamped on the bellhousing and seem to me to be non-factory unlike the ones found on the pan rail.
 
That is the last 8 digits of the VIN of the car it was in. That’s how it was done for 1968 model year. That is from Hamtramck plant 1968.

What are the number on the pan rail.

Ah...makes sense. This is the tranny from my '68 Charger...just verified my VIN. The stamping just looked random. Thanks! Never noticed this before until I started wiping all the grime off.
 
There should be a matching stamping on the back of the block right next to the transmission.
