Early in my career one of my first projects was remanufacturing the flight control actuators on the SR. Exotic materials as no elastomeric seals, all metal to metal. We tested the actuators at 650F. Skydrol fluid …nasty stuff. Many trips to Edwards AFB. got a ride to end of the runway in an air force Jeep and an SR took off what seemed like 5 feet over our heads.
That had to be pretty scary. In 81, we used to run out of the barracks at Camp McTureous to watch the SR71's exhaust flames disappear into the night sky. We would be inside, usually with loud music, and we would still hear the roar of those birds, we called them "Habu's", taking off from Kadena Air Force Base. Loud many miles away.Early in my career one of my first projects was remanufacturing the flight control actuators on the SR. Exotic materials as no elastomeric seals, all metal to metal.
