Been telling crews for over 15 years that the neutral wrap on our 4800v submersible was rotted and always get "it's not that bad.. seen worse". This morning they got no choice but to do a temp repair..

I've opened many an outdoor electrical box with wire nutted connections inside, that have been full of water but still functioning.

I know that water and electricity are not really the mortal enemies that urban legend makes them out to be.

...but that would still be a NOPE for me.

Nothing wrong with the 1" diameter primary's insulation. Just the neutral wrap wires. Removed the two rotted sections and spliced in 10' of #1. Tape wrapped with probably $500 worth of water activated hardening tape and good to go until Spring. Hell it's only 4800v after all... humorous part was I had to lend them wire strippers and give them a line splice wedge I had in the boat house as they had every size but what they needed. By fluke I had the correct one..
