Someone else's lunch always tastes better...

As a child in 1956 My Grandma’s young brother died swimming in a dugout in July. My Grandparents and the 4 of us drove down in a 1949 Chev torpedo back. All Dad could get after the price controls came off due to WW11. It was so hot, the Minister told the men they could take their tie off and if necessary their coats. This was in Kennebec SD.
What was memorable. We had watermelon, Dad asked his cousin Beryl, what was the best watermelon?
His reply was (the one from someone else’s garden). Obviously it stuck in my mind .
In 1984 we were fortunate to be able to take Dad and Mom to visit two of Dad’s cousins who had moved to Rapid City years ago. Nona had a 1967 Fury 111 that had 17,000 miles on it. I said if you ever want to sell it, let me know. Some time later she told me that her daughter in Bakersfield took the car. Had we known, we could have visited her daughter in 1981 when we made a trip down South.
