I've never actually seen a 1969, but my 1970 air grabber assembly is a dark gray with perhaps a hint of brown in it, and if you look closely you can see lighter coloured fibers on the surface. I think these items were manufactured in a heated die-cast mold using injected thermoset resin. Those visible fibers are the reason I would never paint it.

Last night I was reading Motor Trend truck of the year candidate stuff. The EV trucks weigh (GM stuff) over 2000 lbs more than the ice trucks.
