GMC with NAPCO 4-wheel drive conversion?
Starting in 1957, General Motors partnered with NAPCO (Northwest Auto Parts Company) to offer 4x4 systems as a factory-installed option on Chevrolet and GMC trucks. Previously, these 4x4 conversions were performed by independent companies, but with this collaboration, dealerships could now sell factory-ready units and provide replacement parts through GM's parts catalogs.
This factory option, sometimes referred to as the NAPCO Power-Pak, made 4x4 trucks more accessible and affordable. While the term "NAPCO" might not appear in GM's own documentation from that period, the front axle housing of these factory-equipped trucks would have the raised "N-A-P-C-O" lettering,
