This is the dealership that sold my dad his 1977 scout.

this photo is before 69 as the Scouts don't have markers, but the Travelall on the end does, making it a 68. The Travellall and pickup bodies changed for 69

A decked out Scout in 77 would have cost $10-12,000. As much as a Cadillac. 345 V-8, Chrysler torque flight or T19, Dana 20 transfer case and Dana 44 axles, limited slip in the back. The lockouts were AUTOMATIC, which freewheeled when not under a load, or LOCK. They could be turned to lock, and then they wouldn't freewheel when off-roading downhill. With 3.52 gears that Scout got 15 miles to the gallon on the interstate,
The 12 inch power disc brakes stop just like a late 60s New Yorker. Steering box was a big Saginaw that allowed for one finger steering which is handy when you're hanging out of the window cutting in and out of trees or pushing snow. Air, Cruise, Tow package package with trailer wiring, transmission cooler, tilt. Nice rigs. They also took Baja that year.

My dad loved it and it was a go anywhere machine. It came with white spoke wheels and large off road tires. I took it through high waters till it started to float and bounce from one tire to the other for traction. My only problem with it was the fact that it was a rust bucket, which they fixed once under warranty. It was even Ziebarted.
