I've often wondered why toyota doesn't brand their US market trucks as toyotas.

Instead, they are hinos.

Why give up that brand recognition?

Hino existed long before Toyota bought into the partnership. The Hino name itself has it's own brand recognition. On their own, Toyota hasn't developed a large truck.
