The one I posted are affectionately known as horse flies.

They make several slices with their "scalpels" and then pull the plug out of you.

Related to sand fleas? Hated those suckers years ago at a certain Island in South Carolina!

Don't believe they're related.

I walked into an area with tons of sand fleas and they let me know it. It felt like they were biting and boring their way into and under my skin.

Nothing but biting and stinging insects here and now the murder hornets are spreading from the port of Savannah.

Beaufort, near your favorite island, is a very nice place. I kind of wish I had built my home there instead of where I am in Georgia.
