The "Hodge Podge" 340 I purchased in Sacramento some years ago now has new rings and bearings and is ready to drop into the engine bay of our '72 Satellite Sebring Plus: see photo #1 (once a hodge podge always a hodge podge which explains the "paint scheme" which is all over the map).
Anyone have an opinion on whether it is better to have the two block/transmisiion locating dowels sticking out a lot or just a little? The 318 (photo #3) I removed had them sticking out further than the 340 (photo #2) I am installing.
And I was wondering about the motor mount brackets that bolt to each side of the block (photos #4 & #5): as the block is lowered into position and mated with the transmission and crossmember, is it better to leave the motor mount brackets a little loose and wobbly or is it better to tighten them down before the final drop into the engine bay?
Thank you.
