Rear discs on a street/strip car

I was contemplating putting a rear disc brake setup on my car. It will be used on the track and on the street. Would a rear disc setup in any way impede my ability to do a burnout? I guess a line loc would work, but what about just powerbraking like I do now? Any thoughts? Thanks
 
I have disk on the rear of my Satellite. Before I installed a line lock i would adjust the proportioning valve to give more brake to the front less to the back. That didn't work well while drag racing because the sticky mickeys would push the locked up fronts through the trap. I would go with a line lock.
 
Yeah, I was also thinking about an adjustable Prop. valve, but I would want full brakes at the end of the run.
 
My 64 Polara has 4 wheel disc brakes and a line loc.....Disc or drum, the line loc doesn't care whats on the back and burnouts are no problem..

You can set up your proportioning valve to whatever provides full brake force without affecting anything else..

YES , I understand that. I don't have a line loc. Just wondered if the discs on the back would hamper a burnout. I know line locs are cheap enough, just a hypothetical question on my part I guess.
 
As others have already said... It shouldn't really be an issue with 4 wheel disc even, unless you have a big rear brake bias, more fluid/pressure going to the rear brakes... usually about 70% of your braking is going to the front brakes, part of why the front brakes have a larger reservoir than the rears, less demand & usually smaller braking surface area, pucks or pads or even shoes on drums... The engine should overcome the slight drag of the rear brakes, especially in the water box, as long as your making enough power to run what your already running, it shouldn't be an issue... but a line lock isn't a bad idea either, especially once you get use to the routine of using one for launches & burn outs, it will isolate the front from the rear, once you activate it & hold the button on, for burn outs or launches... IMHFO it's not really necessary thou, if it was a manual trans car then I'd do a line lock for sure... good luck
 
at the risk of unbelievable ridicule; went with 4 wheel disc and NO prop valve. the pressure distribution is probably about 80/20 or 85/15. (manual brakes w/ 1-1/8" bore. Have ya seen the length and pivot point of a '64 brake pedal). line lock would be easier with a manual trans. however; there is a certain "dance" with this set-up that is old school. key for me is launch in 2nd, feather the brake and throttle, watch the tach and USE THE TORQUE!!
 
Basic answer to a basic question is "No" it will not.
The residual valve should be a low poundage unit.
 
Save the $100 and try em without the prop valve first. I installed front discs and keep the prop valve wide open and it works great. Tough to lock those sticky rear tires up, so no prop valve needed (for me, anyway).
 
I put rear discs on mine because I'm running really skinny fronts. For burn outs no problem. When I was younger I had VW tires up front and N50's out back. I stomped it once and the throttle cable had frayed and hungup WO. Those fronts were no match for the backs. BTW the cop that showed up almost let me off when I told him the throttle stuck till he had me pop the hood and saw it was WO:iamwithstupid: I'd go with the disk set up!
