Greetings,

I am going to replace the rear main seal on a 1963 Chrysler 413 and I have watched numerous install videos of the rubber seals (Mancini, Fast Fish, 440 Source) which all seen to be a (cross your finger type attitude and "clocking" the rubber seal etc.) and my question is: Has anyone replaced the factory "old" rope seal with a new one and have any issues?
ALSO, to replace the rope seal with the crank installed, do you have to remove the last bearing cap and loosen all the other bearing caps?

I just want the easiest way to do this.

:thankyou:

I used the 440 Source Viton seal and I'm satisfied so far. The two recessed retaining bolts might have been something I overlooked. They need to be filled with sealant flush with the pan gasket surface.

The rope seal installation requires a "Chinese Finger" tool to pull the rope through and over the top. No bearing removal is necessary.

From what I ubderstand, the "newer" rope seals are not as good as the old OEM units. I run mostely slant sixes, and have had some issues with the neoprene seals. I have used the old rope seals without issues, but they are harder to install. I have not tried the "newer" rope seals.
