How is the reflector lamp housing held to the quarter panel? Is there a backing plate that the two posts slide into then the two nuts compress? No slots in the panel and the FSM isn’t clear.

Is this a 70 B body? If memory serves me, on the front side markers you have to break the lens on the reflector to get to the two screws that hold it in place.

Yes 1970 Belvedere. The diagram doesn’t make sense to me. Looks like it should be clamped on since there are no holes for mounting the light assembly.
 
Simple question here for anyone who has taken theirs off. Unfortunately mine were not intact when I got it. Mopar FSM not clear imagine that!

You're basically correct. The outer piece with the lens is placed on the outside of the car, while the inside has a stamped plate that holds against the inside of the panel with the two nuts. The Valiant section of the manual shows a better example:

Ah thanks so much Photon! I wonder why the manual fir the bbody didn’t include that part. Now it kooks like I need to buy them if they are even available.
