Speaking of pedal bikes.......did any one else cut the forks off one or two bikes and weld them on as extensions to make a chopper?! I remember what happens if you don't weld them!!!

We actually had a big weeping willow tree down on the corner as a youngster...it grew next to this mucky bog and I remember on occasion having to pick out my own 'switch' with which I was about to get my punishment...(I still hate those stinkin' trees) the old lady next door would just shake her head "boy when you gonna straighten up! Start behaving!" Nowadays people freak out and call CPS. It's not like we got 20 lashes or anything but the terror of the whole process leading up to the actual whack was all part of the plan I'm sure...

One time I thought I would be smart and bring in a limb that I knew my mother couldn't swing. BIG mistake she started breaking off smaller pieces and wore me out.

Our mom would just give us a sad look and hold up three fingers. It meant wait till yer dad gets home at three o clock. wide leather belt hanging on the inside of the cellar door.

There were lots of times when we were either, or both, and still didn't go home. I don't recall wearing any Band-Aids as a kid...lots of Mercurochrome though...

Schwinn stingrays, wow! You guys must have been upper-middle class. I had a used Bobcat from the local bicycle repair shop. Dad must have paid $10.

My first modification was to extend the forks to make it look like a chopper. My friend Steve's dad had some metal tubing, a hammer and a drill. It was light in the front and had a wide turning radius but it looked cool.

Net mod was when BMX came into vogue. I took some motorcycle handlebars and mounted them to the stem and replaced both tires with "knobbies". Then took off the banana seat and put on a BMX seat. Slapped a number plate on and had me a dirt bike.

Ironically, that bike was the same color as my Coronet, copper metallic.

The thing I really hated were those cable-driven drills at the dentist.Now the pain is instant instead of vibrating every bone in your head forever!
