Remember the Ford Pinto?

I had a 76 pinto wagon, that was a pretty decent little car. Gutless, but I liked the little bugger.

The wagon had a nice look to it. The coupe looked like someone chopped the back of the car off. Never got used to the side view of the car. It was fun though. My best friends dad bought him one when they first came out. We immediately painted the grill black. Gutless but fun to do drift parking with the hand e-brake.

My oldest sister's first new car was a 76 Pinto Stallion. Very fun to drive when I was only 16. It looked cool with the special graphics.

When I started my commute to college my Dad told me I needed a more economical car, I agreed and I traded in my 1966 Plymouth Satellite for a new 1972 Pinto hatchback. I liked the Pinto and drove it for a lot of miles with no issues. Several years later I eventually traded it in for another car. Fast forward to 2013, I retired and I was driving my wife nuts. My wife told me I'd better get a hobby, so I went looking and found a 1966 Plymouth Satellite convertible and as they say , the rest is history!IMG_2757.jpeg

Vega had an option of a Panel Wagon. It was titled as a truck.

Right here is where we need the clip from "Top Secret". If I knew how I'd post it.
A friend has a nice pinto with a 351 stroker in it. It's a bit faster than stock.

Exactly what I 1st thought

I have been trying to forget the Pinto! But I do remember Fords lawyers telling them that it would be cheaper to just pay the indivisual lawsuits than it would be to recall all the cars, and Ford took the lawyers advice until there were so many incidents, that the Feds made Ford recall the cars anyway! I never owned a Ford and never will!

Vega looked good but the engine was a steaming pile of crap... And theres a reason for the old saying "On a quiet night you can hear a Vega rust"....

Ford's 2.3 was no power house but millions of them ran for upwards of 200K miles..... That engine went on to power allot of different vehicles.... When the Vega died it's engine died with it.... For a damn good reason...

Pinto’s were great run around cars, easy to maintain and economical. I had numerous Pinto’s and a cute Bobcat as well. Putting 14” wheels on the back from a Fairmont gave them a nice rake. Cams and lifters were easily changed.

 :luvplace: :steering:

My parents had a Pinto for a few years. Looked like the picture below. I remember my dad bought it for $500 and then sold it several years later for $400. It had the 2000cc 4 cylinder engine, and it ran pretty good. It was a fun little runabout car (never tested the crash worthiness of it though!).

I don't recall them being available with a 2.3L. Maybe that was the later years?

2000 was only in the 70-73, the 2.3 showed up as an option in 72 or 73..
