This weekend I was looking again for someone that could rebuild my remote mirrors. The driver side works okay but, the passenger side mirror is basically covering the mounting holes in the door because it flops around making it useless. They look really good and make purchasing replacements a tough call. However, this weekend on a Oldsmobile website I stumbled across something interesting. A few posters there said to unbolt the mirror from the door, rotate it once or twice to twist the cables around one another and bolt it back on. The idea was to create enough tension in the cable to make them work again. There were mixed reviews but I figured what the heck it'll only cost me time.
Did it work? No and yes! No, the "remote" part still doesn't work but, the added tension to the cables firms everything up so now it works like a non-remote mirror and is at least useful (well, as useful as these tiny mirrors can be). It only took me 10 minutes so I'm calling that a win (until I can find someone that can fix it right anyway).
