Hi everyone -- so I'm getting started on my new project, and finally have the engine out. It's seized so I'm trying to take it apart and hopefully get a look inside the bores to see if the engine is worth saving. I'm down to removing the cylinder heads, and they're really stuck on. I've done some searching and have confirmed that I've removed the 8 bolts on the outside of the heads and the 4 bolts by the intake runners.
I've tried loosening things up with a hammer, and also lifting with a block of wood under the manifold studs, all with no success. FWIW, the engine is very rusty with visible surface rust on the block. There was dirt and what I presume to be rust dust (it's red) everywhere once I removed the valve covers, so my fear is that corrosion has fused the heads to the block. Is there something I'm missing or a trick to removing them?
