Hi guys,

At some stage a previous owner has replaced my wheel arch and welded it in just over an inch too far forward. It's really annoying me now I know it's there.

I figured I'll buy a replacement quarter panel skin from AMD but I'm wondering if anyone here has fitted one of these. Are they a good fit?

Cheers

I have installed 2 full quarters on my 69 charger from AMD and the fitment was spot on. Question, If the quarters were welded in 1" to far forward you think you would have some serious door fitment issues. Are you sure that's the case or could you have something going on with your suspension and rear end?

Nope.. When I first noticed it I spent hours measuring suspension etc and it's all spot on. It's only the actual wheel arch that's in the wrong place as the rest of the panel is fine. I'm assuming they decided to weld in a replacement arch and just didn't measure up properly. It's not even close!

If the wheel arch is off, wouldn't both the inner and outer wheelhouse also have to be off as they are all tied together?

I was thinking the same thing. I'd guess along with a quarter or quarter skin, you'd be looking at changing at least the outer wheelhouse's as well. Should be pretty easy to figure out if the inner wheelhouse has been modified. Moving that forward would take some serious modification, considering where it originally spot welds in. AMD's got the best fit out there. Not 100% just weld on and go, (they will require a little trimming/fitting to lay on perfectly), but still the best out there.

my guess is there is a serious can of worms hiding in there

Geez, it looks like they sectioned a front fender for the filler piece. Overall though, I think it's a (relatively) easy fix.

First you'll need to determine how boogered up the inner and outer wheel wells are. The outers have to be, but if you're lucky the inners might be salvageable.

Cut that mess back an inch or so from the edge and replace the outer wheel house, (assuming the inner is where it is supposed to be, otherwise, you'll be changing that too) source an AMD quarter skin and section just what you need (several inches back from the new opening) and butt weld it to the existing quarter.

The inners actually seem to be in the right place. That was one of the clues that it wasn't my suspension that was out but the arch itself. I was going to take a couple of pics but I got home late and it was a bit dark. I'll take a couple tomorrow.

Looks like thaey hand fabricated the opening, or patched in one from a Plymouth, the reveal (Chamfer?)around the opening is gone.

I agree with last post.

Looks like the recessed area on the fender well that the chrome wheel moulding trim would mounted on is not there.
