I ordered a repop turn signal switch for the 65 belvedere. Here's what I have found out.
1)The gear indicator bulb/housing will not line up in the correct holes because the repop housing is shaped different than the original one.
2)The switch will go into the Left turn position, but not into the right turn position, due to the design of the repop switch is a different shape and the Turn signal lever/stalk cannot go high enough without hitting the top of the opening on the steering column housing where the lever/stalk goes into.
I am not interested in grinding down the original steering column housing to make it go into the right turn position, and I dont think grinding/removing material on the repop switch to get the gear indicator light to line up is a good idea. It will more than likely weaken the new switch.
I know the fix for this is to find a NOS switch, but even if I find one, they are made of plastic, and even if its been sitting in a box on a shelf, id still be installing a 60 year old plastic part, which was most likely degrading over the years while it was in the box.
Anyone have any suggestions?
