I ordered a repop turn signal switch for the 65 belvedere. Here's what I have found out.
1)The gear indicator bulb/housing will not line up in the correct holes because the repop housing is shaped different than the original one.
2)The switch will go into the Left turn position, but not into the right turn position, due to the design of the repop switch is a different shape and the Turn signal lever/stalk cannot go high enough without hitting the top of the opening on the steering column housing where the lever/stalk goes into.
I am not interested in grinding down the original steering column housing to make it go into the right turn position, and I dont think grinding/removing material on the repop switch to get the gear indicator light to line up is a good idea. It will more than likely weaken the new switch.
I know the fix for this is to find a NOS switch, but even if I find one, they are made of plastic, and even if its been sitting in a box on a shelf, id still be installing a 60 year old plastic part, which was most likely degrading over the years while it was in the box.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Yep.. weekly we state "buy once, cry once". Buy an NOS switch. Stored correctly they work just fine and that's from a guy that's been in the Plastics industry since 1985. I think I have two at home, but not there for another 10 days or so.

CCJ Cheap Chinese Junk. I would carefully elongate the three mounting holes enough so the switch can be rotated. It should fix both issues. If not send it back.

Im curious if it is shaped different because it has "lane change"? It looks like it might (to me). Thought that was not available on '65 and back?? Which would mean wrong application. Where did you get the switch?

Maybe @Slantsixdan can help shed some light?

Get an NOS switch. As long as it wasn't stored out in the sun and heat it will be fine. Both of my nos switches are mint, stored in their boxes since the late 60's.
