Hi I am 15 trying to restore A charger. First of all is goodmark A good brand to use? or should I buy somewhere different? I found a site called musclecarmetal.com they have good prices but just on goodmark products. How would I replace my floor bord? and side panels? I have A lincon 240 hd. Where should my settings be? I apreciate all the advice that can be given.

Reece

From what ive heard good mark mopar products as far as sheet metal goes is junk. You should try looking at A.M.D.(Auto Metal Direct). Bought a full quarter front and rear valence and an out wheel well i was pleased with the fitments of all pieces considering the damage done to the area of the car where the quarter and wheel housing were replaced. Ive never replaced floor pans but ive seen people do it both ways cut out the old spot welds with a drill and either weld them solid to the surrounding floors or drill out new spot welds and then fill those in starting at the outside of the hole back into the middle.

Reece, I'd say go up to the members projects area in the forums here and have a look at some of the projects like "family tradition" "junkyard dog" "carpenters special" and so many more awesome build threads posted up there. There are many of them.

Those are some great reads with pictures, you can really see how this stuff is done by checking out those build threads.

Good luck with your car!!

Dave

Welcome Reece....I agree with Dave, check out some of the resto threads (including his). They'll give you pretty good insight into some of the items you addressed.

68 charger

there is also autobody specialty out of ct , my quarter panels .floors, valance, rockers came from there 22 years ago and they are still on the car:upside down:

I got goodmark and AMD frame rails for my Charger. the AMD had lots of wrinkles in the bends, the nuts inside the rails where welded way off. The Goodmark rails where just about perfect, no wrinkles and the nets where welded right in the center.

I also got the torsion bar crossmember from Goodmark and AMD. The Goodmark crossmember was a little off and needed work to make it fit. The AMD drooped right in.

All my Sheet metal is from AMD, all needed a little work here and their. The worst part i got was the rear valance, I've given up on it for now.

I had really good luck with panels from those guys on a 68 coronet, a pair of quarter skins, trunk extensions and front floor pans, Everything fit really nice.

Recently i bought a batch of tin from AMD with really no complaints except for the trunk extensions for my 69 RR, I'm still thinking they must have sent the wrong ones they were off so far.

ya back in the day autobody specialty were really the only ones around

The autobody out of ct do they have a website? Or do you have a way I can reach them?

I've been doing both older model resto's & late-model repairs over the years. My best experience is "hit-or-miss". I've had aftermarket parts fit like a glove, OEM parts that I had to modify/repair. And vice-versa. My suggestion: if it fits, use it. (Where did I hear that before ? ). If the fit is off, try another source, use the better one & return the other. I gave up wasting time trying to "make it fit" . Years ago, there was little choice. These days, much better. Have fun doing it, that's all.
