going to restore my rear end 3.23 appearance on my 70 super bee. I do have the tag but should I have the paint markings on it such as in the picture with the exception being black stripes?
They did paint some. Those that were were shot outside the lugs which left a pentastar shape (surprise....5 lugs) and the paint rolled over the edge on to the sides of the drum, but not to the back edge.
The red paint on the drums was actually taken from an orginal blue print but I have seen originals where the red paint was completely covered the face of the drum. The Three black stripes represents the 3.23 rear sure grip. orange daub represent filled with gear lube. The 056 represent what was on the build sheet which was to go on that particular car. I think there may have been more markings on it but I don't know what they would of represented.
you know, i always wondered about that. My GTX has the drums painted red, and i thought they looked cool, so i left them. I didn't know that ma mopar actually did that from the factory
