What is everybody doing to restore their factory nuts and bolts? Besides sending them out to cad plate or other types of plating Are they Parkerized originally ? I' m looking for a method I could cheaply & safely do at home, thanks in advance!

Look at @dadsbee and @moparnation74 build threads.

Lots of folks use Mineral Sourits for degreasing, a wire wheel on a bench grinder, a tumbler and abrasive media and different kinds of finishes depending on the fastener. Most nuts and bolts are just steel with iron oxide for rust protection.

Boeshield is a great rust protection.

For the body nuts and bolts My plan is clean and paint them,if need run a die or tap threw them. .

Evaporust will make plain fasteners look like new. It does not touch paint, though. Anything that gets painted goes in the sandblast cabinet.

Sandblast, wire wheel, steel brush, and usually by hand. I have never been too concerned with restoring them to factory-new appearance, as when I was working on my cars, I just wanted them to clean up nicely and then thread chase the nuts and bolts to clean up the threads. cr8crshr/Bill :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:

I clean and tin/zinc plate with eastwoods plating kit. to keep the rust away.

You can nose around on this site, Caswell, and see if they have any products that tickle your fancy.

Copy Cad & Zinc Plating Kit - 1.5 Gal

If you decide to use evaporust, make your own.. it's like 20 gallons for $20 istead of $20 for 1 gallon and lasts WAY longer than the normal stuff... i keep a huge tub of it.. just soaked some rims in it, came out great.

Also.. here is a thread with other guys that tried it..

Another vote for Evaporust. I have a jar of it on the shelf in the garage and drop all of my rusty fasteners, clips, nuts & bolts in it.

Just a side note about evapo-rust . I soaked dead power window switches in it cycling the switches now and again . The switches worked like new again. I rinsed the switches in isopropyl alchol afterwards and blew them dry with compressed air.

While they were still in their chrome housings?

@Islandkent had a good thread on coating hardware using Caswell.
Thanks Wayne! Time to get back at it. Been a year since I touched her. A long year!
Yep Caswell and zinc and nickel plating and RPM Does a lovely job! After glass bead blasting. Well worth the effort. And I mean really; what a great way to spend some time. Becoming one with your blast cabinet. lol
Never tried the Boeshield
