I am putting ported Indy EZ heads and a new camshaft on my 1969 Coronet R/T. The engine builder suggested I use a rev limiter and Rev-n-nator came up in our discussion. I do not want to use a MDS system, but I was also looking at a Petronix distributor. I have the Mopar orange box already on my firewall and the Rev-n-nator should swap right in that footprint. Would the Petronix distributor be a better option for power and less wiring?

I use the rev n Nator and love it... Plus excellent service. I love the ease as well as stock look mikey

I installed the Pertronix III dist with their Blaster coil in my 69 Coronet, stock 440. I only drove the car for a week after install before crashing (sigh) and it's been in rebuild mode ever since, but it ran fine for the short time I used it. The install was straight forward, easy wiring 'cause it eliminates the ballast resistor and control box. It has a rev limiter too. But because the brains are inside the dist housing it's a larger diameter so I had to grind down a little of the stock head to get it to fit. Below is my original thread:

What distributor are you currently running? If you do plan on upgrading it I would suggest a Firecore along with the Rev-O-nator. Have heard only good things about the Rev-O-nator. Saving up for one, and keeping my orange box for a spare.
 
I have an HEI distributor with the orange box.. Is the orange box a electronic controller?

The orange box is just and transistorized switch in place of the points, the box basically detects the magnetic pulse from the distributor, and turns the output transistor off (the normal state is the transistor is on, so it will be pulling current through the coil when the engine is not spining.) The box has a timing circuit that sets how long the transistor is off to create a dwell angle. It also has an internal zener diode voltage reference with a power resistor inside the box (that is why the orange box is 4-pin compared to the older 5-pin unit that had the resistor outside the box.

I just checked under the hood of my '70 GTX, and I found a Rev-N-Nator :headbang:

They work extremely well, and the after-sales service is second to none in my experience. I have had the pleasure of talking in person on the phone with the owners of the R/T Garage, and they are great people to deal with. All cars are slightly different, and if you have any issues, they have the answers....it really is a simple swap-out from the standard Chrysler ECU.

Choice of Black or Orange boxes, and the built-in features are worth the money.

Does it throw multiple (duplicate) sparks like a MDS system? I like the MDS system in theory, but I do not like the additional wiring.
 
Looks to me that you have a Mopar distributor. Depending on the age if the distributor it could give you tuning problems when you swap your cam. You might end up needing a good amount of initial timing. Some of the Mopar units had no way of limiting the mechanical advance. The way to limit it takes some work, like welding and grinding. If you dont limit the mechanical advance you could end up with way too much timing. Thats the way my old distributor was, so I ditched it and put in a Firecore. They have a couple screws to adjust that will limit the advance.
I am not running any vacuum advance. 25 deg of inital timing and 35 deg total. (your results will vary) LOL

They offer 2 styles. Ready to run, which would eliminate a control box or the plug and play version like I have. My plan is to get a Rev-O-nator.
Mancini sells them, I got mine from a member over at dodgecharger.com who is a dealer.

Rev-n-ator is the simple swap for a car with the orange box from mopar. 2 bolts and a plug set the rpm and you are done. Installed one in our 64 and works very well.

If you are getting a new Distributor - buy this one - Accel #59300. It has adjustment for the static timing, and it's easy to change the advance springs. A very nice distributor - it even looks stock. :icon_thumright:
