Rich kid cars.

I grew up in the early 70's. (graduated in 73) In high school there inly a couple Mopars. Jim Holmes had a black 63 Polara and I had my 69 Road Runner. There was a couple Camaro's, one a 302 Z car, a Boss 302 Mustang, one farm kid drove a Shelby 350, another farm kid had a 67 396 Chevelle, a cool Bahama Blue 67 Chevy II with a hot 327 and one kid bought a black Maverick new. A 302 car when they first were available. Day 2 it got Cragars and headers of course. One guy had a purple 54 Chevy. My friend Dave had a pale yellow 67 Fairlane, a 390 4 speed car that I could easily wax with my 383 Road Runner. Not bad for a small town with a population of around 2000. What a great time to grow up in. (well I never really grew up) I need to get on Facebook and see if I can round up some photos. We still had farm kids driving a pick up to school with a shotgun in a rack in the back window. LOL
I started a Facebook post and have received a few comments and some photos. I'll post some up later. Fun to see those old cars again.

Back when I turned 16, I remember a few guys my age got new cars. Datsun 280ZX, 2nd gen Trans Am, Bronco… I wasn’t impressed with any of them.

I’m still not. And have to laugh at someone paying $50k and up for those T/A’s.

I graduated in 1986. For my era, the rich kid cars were the Foxbody 'Stangs, IROC Camaros and one guy had a brand new...*cough* Honda Prelude. One girl surprisingly had a Starsky-and-Hutch-painted Torino. I had my rusty F8 green '70 Charger, my buddy had a '71 Charger the same color. I never lusted at other people's cars. I probably never would've thought I'd one day be restoring that high school Charger, but I never considered selling it and had a lot of fun and memories driving it.

Kids in my HS had “older money” so they were careful how they showed it. I was actually from another district.

One had a new 5.0 GT. His dad owned one the biggest realtor groups in LA area. He had a mini bike too he would run around campus during school hours. His mom was a Bel Air trophy wife. His brother was in and out of rehab before his junior year.

Others had new Jeep Wanglers, a few 3-4 year old BMW 318’s.

The kids that were movie stars were pretty low key: Patti Dukes’ 2 kids, older brother on The Wonder Years, one of the lifeguards Baywatch.

I don't recall any rich kids; a few of us had jobs lol......... one dude bought a new 83 5.0 mustang........ it was a slug at best

I graduated from a rural school just south of Sacramento in ‘90. The one rich kid had a new bmw 2 door 318 I think it was. Other kids had their parents or grand parents hand me down mid size sedans. There were about 6 kids with various 65-68 Mustang coupes, half of which were very clean/restored. A couple guys had late model mini trucks that were lowered with “rims”. One was a pretty custom 85 ext cab Toyota that was slammed, custom paint, targa top, and expensive wheels. There was a guy who had an early 80s chp Mustang, carb’d 302 and 4 speed. He was good at e-brake turns. My bro had a 66 elcamino and I had a 66 valiant signet hardtop, but we were poor so they weren’t particularly nice or fast.
Travis..
