Hey guys. I have a set of small block rocker shafts that I've had for over 25 years and never used. I went to install them and I'm missing 1 of the shaft spacers. Does anyone know if I can just make one out of a piece of steel pipe that is the same diameter? How about a spring, like the hemi used? Any suggestions?

I wouldn't use a spacer made from a piece of steel pipe unless the pipe was extruded rather than seam welded. A better choice would be a nickle bronze bushing or hard bronze which you can buy at any bearing supply house. Perhaps someone here has a spare hanging around that they could give you.

as much trouble as I had setting up the valve train assembly on my 505, I got to wondering about springs like the hemi`s had, why couldn`t a guy could shim (space the stand side and use springs for the other side on most rockers.

Stainless spacers cut to fit then shim for valve stem to rocker arm alignment, came out perfect.

For valve spring shims will fit the shaft which a slight touch of the sanding roll. However those parts are not hardened, any type of steel will be fine.

Thanks guys. I installed the one complete set, on the right bank today. Cured 90% of my lifter noise. I'll make a spacer and install the other set soon.
